Self-care vs Medicare

[cs_content][cs_section parallax="false" style="margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;"][cs_row inner_container="true" marginless_columns="false" style="margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;"][cs_column fade="false" fade_animation="in" fade_animation_offset="45px" fade_duration="750" type="1/1" style="padding: 0px;"][cs_text]With the defeat of the new healthcare bill that failed to pass the House of Representatives last week, we now have to determine if we are going to rely on Medicare or selfcare. Medicare is relying on the government to make sure your health is in good standing. Selfcare is taking charge of your medical care. The reality is relying on the government has proven to fail 100% of the time.  Health insurances would rather have the government cover all your medical problems, but to be truly free we need to take charge of our own health.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Government Healthcare[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]When it comes to the government, and human nature, we all want to take the easiest path.  In government they prefer to make one size fits all.  They also prefer you to by one type of insurance that covers problems that do not apply to you.  Then the things you need are not available for you.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]How to provide Selfcare[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]Day to day medical care is not difficult, and it takes a little training with some education. When our family or we ever cut themselves, falls to break a bone or have a cold or flu, we tend to go straight to an acute care clinic. Going to clinics can become expensive and very costly if we do not have insurance. The overworked health care system susceptible for making costly mistakes, such as medication errors or treating wrong patient.

Taking a basic First Aid or an advanced first aid course will empower you with the knowledge in knowing what to do in any medical emergency. Injuries and illnesses are the sole reason why we see a doctor in the first place. We can limit our time to visit a costly practice with our training. The more you know, the better the outcome and your community benefit from it. Visiting the medical system without insurance will get expensive. All you need to do is go to a CVS or medical store, and you can get almost everything you need to provide medical care for you friends and family. I am not suggesting just you get the first aid training; it is recommended that everyone you know gets this same training, so as a community you can treat each other and care for one another.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]First Aid Training [/x_custom_headline][cs_text]Every basic first aid class talks about bleeding control, choking, basic CPR, identifying illnesses, head neck injuries, and bone injuries.  These basic problems are all number one reason anyone goes to the acute care clinic or emergency room.  With a broken down medical system The Beating Heart Center is here to support your training and ongoing education in knowing how to be safe.  We believe in a community effort and self reliance,  because we all know government will fail you every time.  This includes your local ambulance services not getting to a situation on time to you medical visit making things worse through medical mistakes.  We are here to help and make you confident in knowing that you and your family will know how to respond in any disaster.  You can check our website out and find basic First Aid is only 25 dollars. How to Respond to Emergency Situations

[cs_content][cs_section parallax="false" style="margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;"][cs_row inner_container="true" marginless_columns="false" style="margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;"][cs_column fade="false" fade_animation="in" fade_animation_offset="45px" fade_duration="750" type="1/1" style="padding: 0px;"][cs_text]When an actual emergency happens during your daily routine, it disrupts your normal train of thought.  The first thing that comes to mind is that this is not real and who ever is involved is just joking.  The next thing that comes to mind is the alert thought that says this is for real and what do we do? At this point a rush of thoughts and feelings come to the surface and if you do not have control then your reaction starts as a panic.

There are many ways to prevent a mental panic. We will like to help you become prepared for any kind of emergency.  Here are some steps you can take.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Being Prepared For Emergencies[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]The Boy Scout Moto is "Be Prepared".  Emergencies are not predicted and they happen when you least expect them to happen.  Being prepared for almost anything is key to not panicking during emergencies. The first step in being prepared is education and training. The more you know the better chance you have in knowing what to do in any disaster. The next thing in being prepared is to have all the equipment you need for most emergencies. For example having clinical gloves, CPR mask and a face shield usually is all you need in most medical emergencies.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]What types of Emergencies are there?[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]There are many types of emergencies you can encounter.  According to ACLS network they claim that most emergencies are dealt with from personal health, such as sudden cardiac arrest or stroke.  Any person who has shortness of breath, is unconscious, altered mental status, or is in severe pain can be a medical emergency.  You need to act quickly and gather as much information as possible for the paramedics who come later.

There are other emergencies that are not medical, such as earthquakes, typhoons, or tornado.  These emergencies are from nature and can cause injury to person or leave you stranded with little to no supplies.  These emergencies you need to have knowledge of your geographic location and know your surroundings to become prepared.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Emergency Action Plan[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]As we mentioned before being prepared is essential, and one easy way to be prepared is to have an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).  EAP is a procedural program to have around for when you encounter an emergency or disaster.  Having an EAP lets every person in your group to know what they need to do when an emergency happens.  This plan lets you know who to contact in a medical emergency and where the medical kits are located including the automated external defibrillator AED. The EAP shows where to exit the building during a fire, or where to go in any kind of disaster.  Your EAP could show where all disaster supplies are located.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Training[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]Training is essential for any emergency preparation. The more you practice, the better you can utilize your knowledge. Most people think that more you stock up and save the better you will be in an emergency. The truth is that when any disaster happens what you know is going to increase your survivability better. Taking a basic CPR/AED class is a start in any emergency training. You need to always look into more knowledge. Taking a First Aid class and then advance first aid will always prepare you for medical emergencies. For natural disasters or civil unrest wilderness, first aid training is great to have in knowing how to save lives. The Beating Heart Center can prepare you with the knowledge needed to save the lives you love the most.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]

First Responders use Jetpacks to Save Lives

[cs_content][cs_section parallax="false" style="margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;"][cs_row inner_container="true" marginless_columns="false" style="margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;"][cs_column fade="false" fade_animation="in" fade_animation_offset="45px" fade_duration="750" type="1/1" style="padding: 0px;"][cs_text]Can you imagine having a medical emergency and instead of an ambulance showing up initially, you get a first responder using a jetpack from the sky?  I know this sounds like science fiction or Ironman story. Today this is starting to become a reality through a company called Martin Jetpacks.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Martin Jetpacks[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]There is now a jetpack that is safe and stable for people to use and they could be used in your community very soon. The unit is called the OPHAV from Martin company. They have stable, maneuverable capabilities to allow an operator get into hard to reach places. The use of these modules are unlimited, but we like to talk about how first responders could use the jetpacks.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]How First Responders can use this new technology[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]A jetpack will make people able to respond in more of a timely way than the current technology.  The average response time for an ambulance to a victim is 10 to 15 minutes here in San Diego.  If every fire station had a group of Martin Jetpacks, they can decrease the time of response and bring important aid to any emergency.  Dubai has ordered 20 of these units for firefighting and first aid response.  They want to use the jetpacks for the high rises to provide help for people that maybe trapped on the top floors.[/cs_text][cs_text]The Martin Jetpacks were utilized in the recent Christchurch New Zealand Earthquake to rescue and render aid as first responders. This proves that even if Martin Jetpacks is a new technology, it is very effective. You may want one of these jetpacks, but the current price tag is 250,000 dollars. As time goes on the price will drop and more communities will have this life-saving unit in their community.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]

Here are a few ideas of best practices in having a safe new year.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Always having Personal Protective Equipment [/x_custom_headline][cs_text]When a medical emergency happens, you can be exposed to possible infectious bodily fluids.  That is why having personal protective equipment (PPE) will reduce the chance of infection. One of the most common protective devices is clinical gloves. The use of vinyl gloves are commonly used to prevent latex allergies.

A common problem most people have about gloves is not having them when an emergency happens.  Here are a few ways options you can do to make sure we have gloves when you need them.[/cs_text][cs_text]

[/cs_text][cs_text]If you by chance have an emergency that requires you to give breaths, such as CPR it helps to have a barrier device.  The easiest one is the key chain face barrier. Some of these face barriers have gloves with them to have on hand.  Another great barrier device is the simple face mask.  These devices are great for your first aid kits.  They come with a one-way valve for giving breaths and a pair of gloves.  This is the best device to have for giving breaths.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Keep your family Safe with an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]The emergency experts at ready.gov offer a number of downloadable communication plans to help you get your family members the information they need to stay safe and stay together during an emergency.[/cs_text][cs_text]Along with plan templates, they suggest taking the following actions.[/cs_text][cs_text]

The American Red Cross and American Safety and Health Institute both provide this EMR training. In San Diego, The Beating Heart Center has the most flexible schedule for the EMR training courses. Our EMR courses offered four times a year, and if customers cannot make the scheduled training days, then we set a class up for groups of 3 or more students. If you are interested and need this type of training, you should register for our next EMR course this November 7 at 5:30 PM.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]

Can CPR Feedback devices help improve your CPR skills?

[cs_content][cs_section parallax="false" style="margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;"][cs_row inner_container="true" marginless_columns="false" style="margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;"][cs_column fade="false" fade_animation="in" fade_animation_offset="45px" fade_duration="750" type="1/1" style="padding: 0px;"][cs_text]Taking a CPR class can seem overwhelming especially when you have taken one before.  You try to remember what the compression ratio is and understand how much pressure does it take to compress the chest.  Going over CPR once in every two years makes it difficult to remember anything.  That is why using CPR feedback devices are useful in the real world emergencies and during your training.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Feedback Devices used for CPR training
[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]There is a variety of CPR feedback devices you can use in a CPR class. Some manikins have indication systems inside their bodies like the Preston manikins. Preston manikins come with a light indicator that monitors the speed and depth of your compressions. They go with a three light system of red, yellow and green. Red means the patients dead; Yellow is too mellow, and two green is good.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]Loop CPR Device[/x_custom_headline][x_image type="none" src="https://beatingheartcenter.com/wp-content/uploads/Loop-CPR-System.jpg" alt="" link="false" href="#" title="" target="" info="none" info_place="top" info_trigger="hover" info_content=""][cs_text]Another device ideal for CPR training and that is the Loop CPR program.  Loop is an interactive system with a puck and software for any mobile device.  How it works is by placing the puck on the manikin with a wire attached to your tablet.  There are two programs to choose.  The first one is a meter system.  The meter system measures your ability and depth of compression.  The loop allows you to get direct feedback on how your CPR skill is and how fast it take for you to get tired of performing CPR.[/cs_text][cs_text]The other program from Loop CPR is the game side. The program set to interactive music and an avatar. The objective is to compress the heart with the same rhythm as the music. The people who played the game referred to as playing Guitar Hero, but except it is CPR Hero.[/cs_text][x_custom_headline level="h2" looks_like="h3" accent="false"]CPR feedback devices for Rescuer
[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]There are some feedback mechanisms for actually performing CPR.  Zoll pocket CPR is a unit which is a puck-like device that you place on victims chest.  The Zoll pocket CPR unit works well with an AED.  After applying the AED pads, you can put the Zoll Pocket CPR puck on the chest and compress.  It will let you know if you are too deep or not effective.  This unit helps the rescuer keep a consistent compression rate for the victim.[/cs_text][cs_text]Taking a CPR class gives you the knowledge needed when an emergency happens.  Having CPR feedback devices on hand during training and actual medical emergencies will help you know how far you need to compress the heart.  Basic CPR compressions simple as it seems does nothing for the victim if there is no high-quality CPR.  The Beating Heart Center provides training by using such devices to prepare our student in knowing what it takes to save a life.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]
